"Pitchforks and Torches" is an outstanding compendium of Olbermann's "Worst Persons in the World," "Quick Comments" and "Special Comments." An articulate rendering of the unfortunate facts behind the Right Wing's rise to power and their constituency, this book is brilliant. Unfortunately, as is the case with most such books, those who are in most need of the information therein are unlikely to be the ones who read it.Olbermann takes on both the ultra-right and the ultra-left with his commentarie [...]

I need to clarify my three-star rating. This book is simply a collection of the "Still Bushed," "Worst Persons," "Quick Comments," and "Special Comments" from Countdown on MSNBC for the year and a half following the 2008 election. If you are a regular watcher of this show, this book will be more a trip down memory lane rather than anything new. It can still be an interesting read, but ultimately it was just a rehash of what I had already watched before. Hence the three-star rating. This is proba [...]

These are the screeds Olbermann would deliver on his MSNBC show before he got fired. They were funny and topical when you heard them on the show with his outraged voice inflection and visuals in the background. In written form, they are boring and now out of date. (The latest was April 14, 2010). Maybe bathroom reading? Thank God I picked up this book for 25ยข at a used book sale. I should have looked inside and let it go for scrap. I should say, I loved his show and am a proud left-wing unionis [...]

This book was the adaptation of Keith's "Worst Persons in the World" scripts from Countdown on MSNBC. It was extremely funny, and I mean spewing coffee out of your nose funny, while being serious some of the time. Some people deserve more than a raspberry for their dumb actions. If you've watched the show faithfully for the past 2-3 years, you will have already seen what's in the book. But if you haven't and you like that segment of the show, have a read. It will get you up to date.

Keith's voice is clearly heard throughout this book. It includes the dramatic "My father asked me to kill him" commentary.

Another stellar volume by Mister Olbermann, including some monumental Special Comments on such topics as Prop 8 and gay marriage. I hope he brings back the Worst Persons segment soon!

If you watch Olbermann's show, this book is a bit of a disappointment. It's nothing but outdated"Worst Persons" and "Special Comments".

    Wildly informative

I enjoyed this collection of segments from Countdown because Olbermann is unquestionably eloquent, passionate, and intelligent. Since his views correspond well with my own, reviewing them on paper is an excellent way to improve my own expressions later. Yes, we all tortured people and we all need to take responsibility for that because this is a representative democracy. Yes, the assassination of George Tillman was perpetrated by a man looking for violence and using a philosophy to excuse it as [...]

This collection of Olbermann's Worst Person in the World Segments and Special Comments covers most of the period between 2009 and 2010. The thing that really stands out in this book is how well written and structured his Special Comments tend to be. These aren't mindless rants that tend to fill the airwavesese are spoken editorials that he clearly took the time to craft into something special.I found this book went down best by reading it a little bit at a time can be overwhelming if you try to [...]

I really liked this book. But that's because I'm a Keith olbermann fan. When I was explaining this to one of my friends they gave me raised eyebrows. And I understand a collection of his segments that I already watched on tv doesn't sound like a great book idea. But there is just something about olbermann especially when talking about his late father and his trials through the health care system that just move you to pieces. Not for everyone but a good read all the same.

If you like Olbermann's show, then you might like this. It's a series of the editorials from his program. They're all very well written, but they can be overwhelming if you read them all at once. Plus, if you've seen the segment on the show, you might not want to read what you've already heard. There are no new essays included.

This is nothing but scripts from Countdown. They were fine on TV, but it's a brazen thing to package them in a book and sell it as if it's something new.

I'm fan of the guy. However, I became annoyed with the back and forth him and Bill O'Riley get into. Even on the air and in this book. I remember seeing some of these segments on his show. It brought back those times when I was angry, when I laughed and when I teared up during his health care debate comments. Relating the current state, to his own situation with his sick father in the hospital. I always enjoyed the calling out of politicians and not still surprised on what they actually said abo [...]

This was interesting and entertaining. I was a giveaway winner which is why I decided to read this book. Love the idea of the "worst person in the world" and enjoyed reading his viewpoints.
