If I had been better informed, I would not have bothered signing up for this FirstReads giveaway. I am expecting my first baby this spring and figured that even if the baby is a girl, it would be interesting to read about life with sons, and I might even glean some parenting insight from it that would apply to me regardless of the sex of my child (and, hopefully, its future sibling someday). What I didn't realize is that this is a book from a Christian publisher, that approaches life from a vastl [...]

I’m Out numbered!:  One Mom’s Lessons in the Lively Art of Raising Boys by Laura Lee Groves is a good little handbook for moms (and dads) of boys.  I got this because I teach 5th grade boys in Sunday School and thought it may be helpful.  She kept the chapters short because she knows moms are very busy so it is a quick read.  She addresses many issues including expectations, laying a foundation for reading, sibling rivalry, teaching respect, organizing, media, teaching responsibility, an [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed "I'm Outnumbered." There is many insightful and helpful sections. . . I especially enjoyed the guidance outlines for helping your boys enjoy reading, even when they don't really want to read. Many of the subjects Laura Lee Groves addressed are thought provoking and worth reading a second or third time through the years. When I won this book through First Reads, I knew that it was totally meant for me. I am very outnumbered with three boys, my husband and our dog. And it is a [...]

Oh boy! This book should have a bright lettered warning on it, that it is meant to be read by devout Christians. I bought it, because as I have a small baby and little time to waste, I read snippets here and there, so these raising boys and other parenting books, are light and informative reads I prefer at this moment, as I have zero brain capacity to follow intricate plotlines right now. So all the atheists out there accidentally reading this book are probably going to be put off by all the bib [...]

I'm a mom of boys and the only female in my home. Sometimes I do feel outnumbered! While I don't have 4 boys, I do have two. And, often, I have a handful of others, as our house is the gathering place of the neighborhood. In many ways I can relate to Laura Lee Groves and some of her experiences, and I thoroughly enjoyed her book. This isn't a giant parenting tome. It's a short, easily read Christian book filled with insights, personal experiences and scriptural references about parenting. Laura s [...]

This book was written especially for me. No, I'm not a mother of boys. I came from a family with two daughters and I bore two daughters in my own family. Now however, I have FOUR grandsons! With such a history of women in my life, I had no idea that bringing up boys was so different from raising girls. Laura Lee Groves quickly set me straight in her book, I'm Outnumbered! This short, pithy book clearly presents the opportunities and hazzards in raising boys. It gives me ways to connect with my g [...]

I won this book here on . Humorous genre was what I expected, so when I started it, I was a little disappointed. What a wonderfully insightful book this turned out to be! I wish it had been around when my boys were younger. Even though they're older now & only one is still at home, I'm using what I've learned from Mrs. Groves with pleasant results. After all these years, how come I hadn't "figured out" boys? Mrs. Groves took my hand & eloquently showed me the way. Her family is blessed t [...]

I'm not exactly the target audience for this one- I only have two children and one of them is a girl- but it was a First Reads win, so I'm compelled to review. This was a quick read that could be a go-to reference in the future. I read so many books on parenting and suscribe to so many parenting magazines that lots of the advice that could apply to a mother of only one boy was not new to me, but it is still solid advice and I really enjoyed the scriptural references. Groves is well-researched an [...]

I could have sworn I already reviewed and posted this, but I just couldn't find it. This was a great book. It was a good mix of personal experience, scripture references, along with studies and research findings. A lot of it was similar to things I'd been taught at church all my life, but don't really apply all the well still. So it was a great reminder. I loved it when she said she held up her first baby and asked something like " don't you want a baby brother?" when she was so frustrated with [...]

First-reads book. It's okay if you like being preached to - which is what it felt like. Instead of getting the warm advice and charming anecdotes I was expecting, I got a sprinkling of psychology and some heavy-handed "with God all things are possible."I'm even a religious person - I would classify myself as someone who is deeply religious and has a strong faith in God. But even I don't like being banged over the head with it when that wasn't why I picked up the book in the first place. And it was [...]

First off, and I didn't see this coming: The author believes in God. It's not a big deal, and I like faith filled women, however I wasn't expecting it, so it threw me off my guard. I thought the author did a great job explaining the differences in each child, and the things you need to watch out for when raising multiple boys. The author read another book that she very much referenced, so basically it was like going to a workshop where the speaker has some really great insights, advice, and pers [...]

This book was an easy read. I didn't think the information was that amazing though, so I only gave it 3 stars. The mother raised 4 boys and shared some of her experiences with that. I enjoyed reading it (having 3 boys of my own) and will probably read some of the books she referenced as well. She is a devout Christian and shared lots of scriptureswhich was fine with me, but might bother some other readers. If you are looking for a book that addresses good moral values though, this would be a good [...]

This book is a relaxed look at parenting sons, from birth through the school years with even a section about being the mother of the groom. With its gentle humor, reflections, and applicable scriptures, reading I'm Outnumbered is like talking with a trusted friend or big sister who seems to understand the crazy stories and the questions you have about living with a houseful of boys. Besides being an easy read, it is a good book to give or pass on to a new mom.

Good Reads First Reads winIt was interesting, the husband and I are a few years off on wanting children but it was still an interesting read. If you aren't into being preached too I would avoid it (not overly but very strong in the Christian themes) but other than that it was cute and full of good ideas.

This book had some good advice to offer on raising boys. I especially enjoyed the chapter that dealt with respect. I have two young sons and appreciated some of Laura Lee Groves' tidbits and revelations. I also enjoyed the end of the book when she had her sons answer some questions.

Im a mom of four boys and really enjoy hearing other moms experiences. This isn't a book about discipline but it gives lots of reminders of how to fit in and keep up with your boys. I liked it

Great book for all moms of boys, not just Christian moms.

Can't say there was anything super 'new' here for me but this book was helpful in letting me know I am not alone. And, that it's possible to manage 2 (or more) boys without losing all control!

    Ashley
It was an entertaining read, and a lot of parts made me think of my brother :S yikes. but probably not something i, as an 18 year girl, would be likely to read again.

Somehow I feel I have to read this book. Could it be the fact I have 4 sons?

looks like a good book for me- be great if I won it :-)

I have three boys and one girl; the youngest is 18, so I wish I had read this book earlier. It is an easy read, and most of it is useful advice for any parent of more than one child.
