A volume in the BFI film classics series.Jean Renoir's 1937 movie La Grande Illusion has long been one of my favorite films, although I have never seen the most recent version made from the original uncut negative. Jackson's book deals with the many ambiguities of the film and its relationship to the politics of the time, as well as its later reception history at various points in time. While I don't totally agree with his interpretations, they are quite thought provoking.

Another the really great British Film Classics. Can't wait to see the movie again having all the interesting critical and historical insights packed into this short book.
