JA Konrath writes the occasionally amusing and often frightening Lt Jacqueline Jack Daniels thrillers, available in hardcover and paperback from Hyperion and as a spoken word from Brilliance Audio. The books are a mixture of the humor of Janet Evanovich, Carl Hiaasen, Christopher Moore, but with the scares of James Patterson, Thomas Harris, Patricia Cornwell.Basically, JA rips off everybody. In order, they are WHISKEY SOURBLOODY MARYRUSTY NAILDIRTY MARTINIFUZZY NAVELCHERRY BOMBSHAKENSTIRREDRUM RUNNERLAST CALLHe writes the blog A NEWBIES GUIDE TO PUBLISHING Joe edited the hitman anthology THESE GUNS FOR HIRE.He writes horror novels under the name Jack Kilborn Titles include AFRAIDTRAPPEDENDURANCEHAUNTED HOUSEWEBCAMWith Ann Voss Peterson he writes the Codename Chandler series HITEXPOSEDNAUGHTYFLEESPREETHREEFIXRESCUEAlso with Ann he writes laugh out loud erotica under the name Melinda DuChamp.

Good book. This free book came with audio, narration was very good, really entertained me while ironing. Read many Jack Daniels mysteries, humorous writing but full of violence. Murder, stolen Super Ball bets, mistaken identity, love and care of sister.Warning, this is not for the dog lovers, if you want to read it be prepared.

I love it as well as all the others in this series. can't wait to get the rest of this series.

This is a good solid thriller from Konrath. The main character is Tequila Abernathy, who stands accused of stealing money from his boss. Events take a tragic turn for Tequila and he vows to find out who really stole the money and exact revenge on those responsible. This book includes the first appearance of Jack Daniels who is the cop on his trail. There's plenty of action, a likeable but flawed central character and plenty of baddies. A really enjoyable straightforward read.

I liked this very much, liked the introduction to Jack Daniels as the detective and found the 'bad guy' character likeable/interesting as well.Plot typically mob/bad guys with one of the bad guys being framed by another of the bad guys and his life goes downhill from there, but he is capable of coping. I found the interaction between the two protagonists interesting, female cop shut out by male colleagues and the bad guy avenging himself on his mob employers.Breakneck speed action, bloody and no [...]

After listening to 2 hours of the audio, I quit, for at least one reason that no other review seems to mention. (Please add comment if I overlooked your review.) The writing is ok, but the characters are all stereotypical. Initially, I found the main villain Tequila interesting, but as time went on, the story became ever more preposterous. Both the publisher's summary and other reviewers say that this episode in the series about Detective Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels is atypical, so I might give an [...]

This is the only book I ever had to force my self to stop reading in bed because my pulse was pumping so fast I would never get to sleep. It is like main lining adrenaline. They say short people have no reason well don't let Tequila hear you say that because in this book short people got reason!I have to say I am surprised by some of the negative reviews on . They seem to be about the content and less about the story line or writing. One reviewer said they quit after 20 pages. Hardly the basis to [...]

This book is a prequel to Whiskey Sour. This is a fast read where Jack finds out all is not well in Chicago. Jack finds herself struggling to understand a series of deaths that seem related but what is the motivation for the deaths. Jack is looking for a man named Tequila. Tequila works for a man tied up with the mob. He is a debt collector. Tequila is also the only caretaker for his older sister, a woman with challenges of her own.I really liked this book, with it's fast pace - all activity hap [...]

Truth be told, I was somewhat skeptical when first picking up (i.e. downloading) Shot of Tequila by J.A. Konrath. Just like so many people, I have been following his blog for about a year now but had never read any of his books. Yes, he has made a living off of his sizable list of novels and whatnot, but that doesn’t mean he’s a good writer. Look at Stephanie Meyers (in my most humble of opinions). Making money does not mean you are good at the craft, just fortuitous, coming along at the cor [...]

A pulp style thriller fest first and police procedural second. A SHOT OF TEQUILA reads like classic Elmore Leonard; punchy dialogue, endearing and humours characters, breakneck storytelling, and crafty plotting. The lead character in Tequila is a one man wrecking ball condensed in an unassuming yet hardened small stature. A former Olympic gymnast and now hired gun, Tequila is pitted against his employer, Marty the Maniac, after being framed for stealing a Super Bowl payday. Welcome to a world of [...]

I started reading Serial Killers Uncut by JA Konrath and Blake Crouch, and while reading, I decided that when there was a section that said "This book takes place after these events" I decided to read the book, then go back to Serial Killers. This was the first book mentioned in the Serial Killers Uncut.I'll be honest I was expecting to hate Tequila, I was expecting him to be sinister, horrible, and terrible.I was wrongI think most people would have done the same brutal acts as he did to protect [...]

A shot of Tequila is an interesting romp about an anti-hero named Tequilla who lives by his own moral code and a cop named Jack Daniels chasing him. The fast paced book is a quick read and well plotted. There is very little backstory and mostly it's a revenge novel. If you're looking for a quick and easy, linear shoot em up and kill the bad guys book, this will work for you. I haven't read other JA Konrath books, but I know this one was pretty good. Just don't expect in depth characters, flashba [...]

Sometime you choose a book from the way the cover looks, sometimes it’s the title. In this case, the title caught my attention. In addition, the mystery genre added to it.Mobsters, crime bosses, loan sharks-the type of people you don’t double cross. Tequila worked for them, collecting monies due. Super Bowl is always a big pay day. Who would dare to rob the boss of the biggest take of the year? The butterfly tattoo on Tequila’s hand would make one think it’s Tequila, but he was somewhere [...]

I can't believe how much I love the way this writer writes the Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels series. They’re just plain fun to read. I can’t get enough and I’m like being an addict trying not to suck each book down without stopping to breathe. JA Konrath creates situations so hard and dark you have no choice but to notice the ugly humor in the situations and that's not an easy feat to achieve. Each character is interesting, ugly, necessary, and funny as hell. This time, we predominately follow [...]

Lots of action, explicit violence, gore and stupid bad guys. Yes, this is definitely J.A.Konrath. It was too much for me, especially with one particular female character who met a gruesome horrifying slow excruciating death. EEK!! Nothing against this narrator, but am I missed the narration of Dick Hill who narrates the other Jack Daniels books. He’s a great Harry. Jack and Harry play minor roles, but they stand out. I love Harry and his immature humor which he takes very seriously. This the [...]

I did not like this book at all. It is not like any of the other Jack Daniel's series. This book was mostly about the mob and a hired hitter of the mob named Tequila. I didn't even finish the last thirty pages of the book as I couldn't have cared less what happened to Tequila or any of the other mobsters. The characters were mundane and forgettable. I give this a two star because it was readable. I just didn't like reading it

Wow I am really glad that I emailed Konrath and asked him what order his books were to be read in and went backwards (yep all the list miss this book) This is the first of the Jack Daniels books. And truly worth reading! In this book you start to feel for the "bad guy" and want to help him in his journey of revenge! Also proves that even the little guy can kick a$$, and have Heart.

Violence alert! I’ve read Konrath’s Jack Daniels series, so I know he can sling blood and gore with the best of them. This is without a doubt the most unrelentingly vicious book I’ve read by him—particularly the pit bull scene. Don’t read it if you have a sensitive stomach. I can swallow almost anything, but I found myself doing the girly “eeeuuuuww!” hand flap more than once.

Tequila puts all other tough guys to shame, if you want to understand the term bad ass, read this book.

Bland, full of tropes and stereotypes, and utterly predictable. Style is not unique -- just like every other pop-mystery writer out there. Reads like someone's fiction-wrting workshop submission.

There is something missing from this Jack Daniels story and it’s obvious. Normally the author is so over the top with the person he puts up against Jack that they make a mark from page 1. They are so ingeniously evil that you’re floored, but here it’s a simple gangster. Yes it has most of the blood and gore you expect from the author and looking back at how Jack got her start is interesting, but comparatively it’s just pretty disappointing which is why I gave it 2 stars vs 3. I feel like [...]

Enjoyable BookAnother enjoyable book by J.A. Monarch. This book centers around the character Tequila more than detective Jack Daniels which was different than the other books I've read. I always like how dark the bad guys are written, although uncomfortable, because you know they will get their justified come upping.

I absolutely love this series. The humor is so dark and disturbing. Just my kind of book. Characters are so unbelievably distateful and lovable at the same time. It's great! So dark and yet so funny. I don't even care that sometimes Konrath loses track and has a few continuity issues. Sometimes I even think he does it on purpose. Did I mention I love this series?

Violent men breed more violence. Lots of murders and beatings all centered around a debt collector who is kindness personified to his sister with Downs Syndrome. You just keep reading even though you want to stop witnessing the madness. Good writing with a tough subject. Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators.

breath takingI read Dirty Martin and was impressed. So I read Rusty Nail and wanted more. I just finished Shot of Tequila and it is definitely the best of the three. Think I will have another drink!

Another great book in the Jack Daniels series. She crosses paths with a criminal named Tequila. This one has laugh out loud situations and scenes of graphic violence. Tequila is the bad guy you root on to win. The ending is a surprise of sorts.

    Utterly satisfying!

My favorite of the series so far!

    Veronica Lindsey
    Good anti-hero story.

The book started of great. It started to get rather long and drawn out. Kept reading just to say I finished it.

Interesting play on wordsThe story line is good. However I was expecting Jack Daniels to be the focus of the story line. Nice spin at the end.
