Autism is something most children do not understand, but the kids in this book are experts. Autism and Me consists of fourteen interviews with children and adolescents who have an autistic sibling. They share what they have learned from living with a family member who is different from other kids. Although they each have some frustrations with their sibling's challenges, they all share a special, loving bond that gives them patience. The siblings in these stories share the same diagnosis, but th [...]

For me, this was probably 3 1/2 stars. The premise is admirable--stories about autism from siblings of children with autism, accompanied by color photos of each sibling duo. There is a 2-page introduction by the author, the parent of an autistic daughter, giving a kid-friendly explanation of autism and the hope that this book will prompt readers to show greater understanding of their peers who behave differently. It left me feeling the need for more, but perhaps it's the right length for 2nd to [...]

This book consists of 14 short stories of real-life stories of those who have siblings or family members who has personal experience with Autism. Most children are not aware of what Autism is, and what better way to show the world than a book of personal stories. This is a great book to use in the classroom for both special education and general education. Students can definitely relate to this book and it would be a great opportunit [...]

More than 5 stars. This book is right on with it's descriptions of autistic behavior, and of the complicated nature of sibling relationships with autistic kids. The individual essay structure presents a variety of views and situations. The siblings are candid, and both positive and negative aspects are represented: therein lies the gift of this book for the reader.

On one of the many summer reading lists for my area, I requested this one from the public library. Told simply so that even the youngest children might understand the diagnosis of autism, I thought the siblings' perspectives and voices gave the book an intimate portrait of something we see all too often in society and the classroom.

The author of this book interviews many kids with siblings who have autism. He helps to talk about autism in a very simple way so that even young children can understand. Each page is about a different set of siblings and how they experience autism. Grade level 2-7Heather
