    It's hard to know what to rate Denise's life or this book.The book itself isn't bad. Nicely written and edited, it tells the story of a trans woman and her life before and during her transition.Denise's life itself is a mess. It could be summerized as one big attempt to escape who she really was. In running from her past and her abusive family, she runs into drugs and pot and an overall unhealthy lifestyle. She struggles with an addiction to crystal meth, finds nothing wrong in drinking and smok [...]

    I am interested in transgender issues and admire the fortitude and courage those experiencing gender dysphoria summon in their lives, including this author who has had much to overcome in her life. While I understand that her very difficult upbringing and the repression of her female self led to drug and alcohol abuse and sexual addictions, I felt there was just too much detail here and often repetitive detail.
