It’s so rare to find a strong female character who doesn’t fall to clichés but Miss Chapman did a fantastic job of creating the perfect female to root for, Princess Ezrahli. All of the characters were wonderfully developed but she was my favorite. I loved the battle of good versus evil throughout. Chapman has a way of introducing the characters through their least proud moments and building their motives in ways we can understand although we may not like everything they do.This story is a r [...]

Actual rating 4.5I received an ARC of Thrown to the Blue in exchange for an honest review.I've been following the progress of this novel on Chapman's blog ever since she started writing it, and was really thrilled to receive an ARC of it!There is about five litres of blood in the average human body and that amount covers good ground. The pool of claret stretches across the marble floor, over my bare feet, and runs down the stairs. Father was an obese man, I am unsure if fat men hold more blood t [...]

An epic page turner!Thrown to The Blue is a stunningly dark fantasy novel. Beautiful cover, suburb writing and compelling characters.A fascinating supernatural read set in a medieval age magical kingdoms, brimming with royal castles fated prophecy and sorcery. Young Adult/ New Adult witchcraft fiction, in the style of Kayla Krantz and Cate Tiernan. Princess Ezrahli is a feisty and complex three dimensional character; unconventional, independent and brutal. Yet also honourable, loyal and loving. [...]

I'd previously read another of the author's books, curious to see how she would switch genres. I was amazed. KJ Chapman has created a fantasy world on a par with Game of Thrones, intricately detailed. The main protagonists , Ezra and Reed are thrown together by murder and betrayal. Reed is a great character. The shadowy archer who saves Ezra, only to fall for her. The story moves along easily, moving from land to land. Covens and murky sects litter their pathway, leaving the reader wondering who [...]

Brilliant!Fab world building with believable doses of magic, tradition, royalty, and various Kingdoms. The characters are well written; Ezrahli the anti-heroine develops over the course of the narrative, and the other protagonist, Reed, adds a different aspect- royal and commoner. There are many antagonists over the course of the story, but it's a journey to join forces to fight a larger enemy. Every antagonist has motivation- I could read their stories in their own right, and this makes the wor [...]

4.5/5: Plot: KJ plays the long game in this novel, the first in the Indigo Flame series. A sprawling narrative, it focuses primarily on Ezrahli, a princess destined to be great. The foundation of the story is one that we are all familiar with. Prophecy children. Destinies that demand selfless action over selfish desires. Yet there is nothing overtly stale in this story. Instead, it plays out at a unique pace, the impact of destiny revealing itself in increments without ever taking power away fro [...]

Great start of a unique series! 4.5 starsAlthough it is about kings, sorcerers, and witches, this book is far from your stereotypical fantasy book. I was intrugued on the first page already. The world is really well built, it is easy to feel part of it. One can easily imagine being there, being part of the adventures. However, as someone else also mentioned before, I would have liked to have a map, it would have made the world more 'real'. Anyways, I was OK with my imaginary map :)I have to ment [...]

What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? A lot. Mostly, I can tell you that this author has really stepped up her game and out of her box to write this incredibly riveting novel! There were so many twists and turns that one could almost feel as though they were on a ride that never ceased to make the stomach quiver or the heart palpitate with vigor. Thrown to The Blue wasn't anything I have read before, and it was told in such a way that you saw the story from all different [...]

The best ‘world building’ is achieved when you aren’t really aware of it. Somehow we have no difficulty understanding the invented words of this strange world. Clues slip into the reader’s subconscious on every page and we start forming out own theories about how it all might end.Kayleigh Chapman is a skilled story teller and I soon found myself choosing to continue reading when I should have been doing other things. This is book one of a series I look forward to following – highly rec [...]

Princess Ezrahli has grown up with vile rumours of her being a witch, only to find the rumours are true. Dragged into a foreign prophecy, Ezra has to deal with hidden enemies, unexpected allies, and finding her Prince along the way.I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.Wow, this definitely starts with a bang. I don't care if you think this is a spoiler, I have to share. Ezra kills her father, the King. A very impressive and bloody opening chapter that firmly sets the tone for t [...]

*I have received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*I normally don't enjoy first person narrative books but this one is one of the exceptions. :-) The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that I found Reed's dialect quite hard to read sometimes and had to translate it before moving on. Mind you English is not my first language so I'm not faulting the author for that! :-)With that said, the book is a great fantasy book full of magic. I felt the world building was nicely do [...]

really enjoyed this book, loved the character ezrahli she started off sounding cold hearted and evil but that's understandable when you get a few chapter in you realise why, some sad and tense scenes which keep you turning the pages, one of those books which was hard to put down, very well written the third book I have now read from this author and every one had me gripped to the end.

Brilliantly written fantasy that had me gripped from the start, through to the end. A world of magic and prophecy, and a story of love, betrayal and power. Ezra is the perfect heroine - independent, fiercely strong-willed and protectiveRead this book!

3.5 starsThe opening sentence of Thrown to the Blue, by K. J. Chapman, is a fantastic introduction for the main heroine, Princess Ezrahli, and an instant submersion into a fantastic story. You'll find yourself flipping pages, enthralled to find out what will happen next.A complicated personality, right away we see Ezrahli's capacity for great hate, as well as great love. We see her strong will in the face of cultural ignorance, as well as a unique open-mindedness that allows for a compassion her [...]

Foretellings have no place for goodness, only greatness. Princess Ezrahli is far from good, but she is a great woman in a conventional Kingdom, followed by whispers and scorn. Reed is a prince of the streets, but what he lacks in title, he makes up for in skill; a skill that sets him on a path already written in fate.I’ll be honest; the first thing that drew me to this story was the cover. It perfectly captures the duality of Ezrahli, a woman both emotionally scarred and tough as steel. I foun [...]

Actual rating: 4,5. (Why won't allow half stars)Ezrahli - or Ezra - is a Princess with a dark past and a future which is still to be determined. But she's not afraid of taking her fate into her own hands. And then there's Reed; an assassin with a dark past of his own whose path intertwines with Ezra's.That's really all I can say about the story without spoiling anything. I really enjoyed Ezra as a character. She's a strong and determined woman and I think we need those more in books. But everyon [...]

From the very first line Chapman draws you into a story of magic, power, family and love; a Queen, an assassin, magic users and a prophecy. I needed to know more of Ezra, Quinn, Brenneth and Reed. The story moved along quickly and I was swept away in an exciting tale that held as much action as heartbreak. This book had such an undercurrent of love among the characters you can not help but become attached to them. This was a wonderful read that kept me captivated until the end; and oh, what an e [...]
