"The Second Fontana Book of Great Horror Stories"Edited by Christine Bernard.Generally disappointing short story collection with only a few highlights. Many stories are written in a dated, verbose style suiting the 1930s rather that 1967 when this volume was published. Perhaps that's when they originated. There's nothing about the authors or why these stories were selected for this volume. If Fontanna were trying to emulate the success of the "Pan Books of Horror Stories" edited by Herbert Van T [...]

The second book in Fontana’s rival series to the Pan Books of Horror is a lesser effort than the first, mainly because it has a higher ratio of poor-to-good stories. Hartley tale is typically underw [...]

Horror's not normally my genre. I gave this collection a shot because it had names I recognized: Kingsley Amis, Joan Aiken and Agatha Christie. Suitably, the stories succeed at being spine tingling, which I guess is the point.
