Simplistic and lacked initial details. This is the start of the series and there wasn't a huge back story to help develop the main character. It has potential to be a decent series but maybe the next one will be better.

This is a clean story about a baker and her ditzy friend who investigate the murder of a troublesome customer. Not all the loose ends were wrapped up but it was a light enjoyable read. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Rated G

It was okay. The characters were sweet and it was a quick read. The story was simple with little complexity but there is definitely potential for a series of good cozy mysteries here. I found the limited editing frustrating. Obviously a spell checker was used but the wrong correctly spelled word appeared often enough that I had to stop to figure out what word should have been used. The worst was the 'milk cartoon' the heroine took out of the fridge.Update: I just read this story again as part of [...]

Some editing issues, but a cute story. Rating 3.5 stars.

I am a lover of a good storyline and although this book has one is not well expanded on, it wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, it is an interesting tale, with the death of Colleen, but it took too long to find out what she died from and how. Everything about the investigation was kept in the dark, and Rachel was too eager to cast blame on others instead of looking at the facts, to me she was a bit too paranoid. The story could have had the girls doing a bit more [...]

A fun, quick read for my February "pie" cozy challenge! I think I'll read the next book in this series. Not sure how the characters will develop but took my mind off other things for a time so for that, I am grateful

Not a series for me. Just skipped to the end. Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books1 star This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.2 stars This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.3 stars This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for u [...]

A novella with potential for a good series featuring 20 somethings stepping out to live their dreams. The characters have great potential to carry a cozy series nicely.Rachael's bakery business is failing. When the local blogger, Colleen Batters, rants against Rachael's high prices and raves about Bakermatic products, Rachael's beautiful, fresh, high quality baked goods can't compete with Bakermatic down the block. When Colleen winds up dead after the Belldale Street Fair all the vendors are que [...]

A delightful short cozy mystery, bringing in all the elements that are needed to keep the reader guessingwho done it?A Pie To Die For by Stacie Alabaster opens with the declining sales in Racheal's Boutique Cake due to the fact that across the street the competitive bakery, Bakermatic, is giving away free samples and cheaper prices. Rachael takes pride in making her pastries and cakes fresh and with natural ingredients. As it turns out, the town invites all the local businesses to participate [...]

This was a very quick read, that holds your attention from the very first page. The characters are fun and quirky. Rachel owns Rachel's Bakery and business is really going down hill due to competing with the larger bakery down the street Bakermatic Baked Goods. There is a food fair going on and no one is coming by when she sees Colleen Batters heading right for her. Colleen is a blogger with a reputation for being tough. When Colleen ends up dead the police show up at Rachel's.Rachel soon sends [...]

Nice, light story, fun characters! Writing could be a little tighter at times, but overall a good work.

I found this to be a nice quick read. It kept me interested from beginning to end. The mystery part was nice. I personally didn't know who did it. I found that it could have been anybody. The author did a good job of keeping it set up that a lot of people had reasons to do it. I don't like when authors make it too easy to figure it out. I hope the rest of the series is as good as this one was.

The story had good bones but needed more meat. It was like reading a first draft for and outline that needed more back story. I didn't feel connected to the characters and I feel that could have been developed more. liked the majority of the characters just wish we had learned more about them.

Not much character development, and a few editing issues (Robison instead of Robinson, Carl instead of Tim), but it was a quick read with a cute storyline. I'll probably check out the rest of the series.

a fun quik read ^^ , it really is captivating and i love the dinamic between racheal and jackson lol ^^

This was okay at best. It was very simplistic and less development of the characters than other cozy mysteries. I was given this as a freebie.

    Mary(Biblophile)
Too simplistic for my taste. The characters were cardboard and the mystery was pretty easy to solve. There was no real substance to the story or the characters.

Kindle Unlimited, the Craft Circle Mystery books were a bit better than the Bakery Detective ones, but that's not saying much. Would be nice if there were actually some crafts going on more than just a mention here and there, and oh yeah real plot with real believable characters.Steps from Death (Craft Circle Mystery #1) Arts, Crafts and Murder (Craft Circle Mystery #2) A Finely Crafted Murder: A Craft Circle Cozy Mystery (Craft Circle Cozy Mysteries Book 3)Naked Eye {not sure where exactly this [...]

Rachel owns a boutique bakery in a small town. Her business is in danger, thanks to a chain bakery down the street that's killing her business, no pun intended, because someone is killed, a grouchy local food blogger, the type that doesn't seem to like anybody's food. Rachel, doesn't believe the local cute detective is listening to her (not that she has clues or evidence to hear), so, along with her free-spirited best friend Pippa, she sets out on her own, to try to prove who she thinks did it.R [...]

Rachel has a bakery that is not doing well. Though she bakes all her goods fresh each day she finds that her competition, the Bakermatic Baked Goods Company is stealing all her customers. Sadly all their products come wrapped in plastic, pre-cooked with all kinds of bad ingredients. When a food critic dies suddenly Rachel is the main suspect because the critic was last seen with a piece of her cherry pie.Determined to save her own bakery and her way of life, Rachel, along with her best friend Pi [...]

After warming up to the crafting series I really wanted to like this book. I felt like this book was a little disjointed. We got relatively no background to the characters. We get a little background to Rachel but not enough to really connect. Pippa is a character that I wanted to love but we don't get any meat to enjoy her as a person more than her weird talents. The link between Rachel and the murder victim was strained a best. From what we find out about the victim anyone could have wanted to [...]

My first book by Ms. Alabaster and can't wait to read the next one. Rachel was proud of her bakery known as Rachael's Boutique Cakes. She took pride in her desserts. It was one women who got under her skin. When something terrible happened after the annual Belldale Street Fair did she start to worry. Meeting tall, dark and Cute Officer Jackson Whitaker at the fair was nice. What wasn't was when he delivered some terrible news to her, and then said don't leave town. What was she to do? Her friend [...]

After a disastrous day at the Food Street Fair with no customers and no sales, Racheal realizes that a food critic was found dead, poisoned by one of the foods from the fair. That’s really the last thing she needs. Not only is her new business failing, dying at the hands of corporate Bakermatic, and not only are the bills are piling up, but now she has to deal with the possibility that her cherry pie killed the victim? That is SO not good for business. Not to mention the fact that she’s a pr [...]

Rachel, the bakery owner, finds herself as a prime suspect in the murder of Colleen, a woman at the food fair that died from poisoning. Detective Jackson is trying to piece all the pieces together. Somehow, Rachel finds herself getting into trouble and finding herself in the wrong places at the wrong times. A good, quick read with a twist at the end I did not see coming. As a teacher, it was a good story that filled my 10 minute breaks at school between lunch and my next class.

I received this free eBook through Bookbub in exchange for a fair review. The first book in the series, this is a cozy mystery with no bad language, sex, or violence and mostly likeable and relatable characters. I enjoyed the story telling that flows well and the fast-paced murder investigation. Although the story line is straightforward and not a complex one, the book makes up for it with the entertaining writing style.

Rachel's bakery is going under. The nasty food blogger, Collen, is poisoned at the street fair after being seen buying a slice of Rachel's pie. Will Rachel be able to find the real killer before her bakery goes belly up? This is an easy relaxing read that requires little from the reader but to enjoy it.

Pie to die for.!! Love this type of book. I didn't suspect that the killer was who it was. A good book to start a series with. Makes me want to read more of her books. I give it a blue ribbon. Give me a cup of coffee and a piece of apple pie. Yummy in my mind and tummy. Add some recipes to them perfect!

Yummy mysteryThis is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed the interaction between Rachel and her best friend Pippa and the cute detective. The story was good but could have used a final proof. It did keep you guessing who did it until the end. I enjoy mysteries that keep you guessing. I look forward to reading the next book both for the mystery and I to see what develops with the cute detective.

Good short cozy mystery about a bakery shop owner named Rachel and her friend Pippa trying to save the bakery's reputation. A woman was murdered at the street fair by being poisoned by someone's food and since they are trying to clear the bakery's name and getting close to finding the killer they are in danger too. I voluntarily reviewed this book.

This is a good, typical cozy to read if you have an afternoon to kill. I listened to the Audible version, which was only 2 1/2 hours long. The mystery itself was interesting and I did not figure out who the culprit was until the end. My only issue with it was that I would have expected the coroner's report to clear a lot of the suspects.
