DEATH OF AN ASSASSIN out June 2016 from Curiosity Quills Press Ian Hiatt is the crazy guy who lives on your block You know the one that all the neighborhood kids point at and whisper about He s cleverly hidden himself by marrying an incredibly tolerant woman and finding himself an adorable dog This is the best disguise for living in New England The villagers have not yet run him out of his castle. When he s not scrawling delusional words about mythical filled cities or dinosaurs, he s busy tapping out code for websites and software If he s kept away from writing implements, he treks aimlessly through forest hiking trails, across abandoned beaches, and wandering the shelves of bookstores These three things don t overlap except for that one time, and that was a really weird day.

3.5 Stars Read all my reviews on urlphantomhiveoklikes Accidents happen. Layla is paid very well to make sure that they do.However, her newest case will turn out to be more trying than even she thought it would be. There will be some eyerolling as she discovers more and more about her self, but mainly it is very enjoyable! What is the chance I would be two book featuring Sirens at the same time? Either way, Layla is a Siren, and her coolest trick is to change her appearance at will and thereby lu [...]

Wow, this book was nothing like I expected! I truthfully didn't even realize it was a supernatural tale until after I started reading. It was a different take on things that go bump in the night and was dripping with wit and adventure. The epilogue felt a little vanilla given the pace of the rest of the book, but it did keep me on my toes and I loved the characters! I sincerely hope for a second book someday!

Is it okay to root for someone who kills people for a living? I received an early release copy of Death of an Assassin through NetGalley. I was totally at odds with how I should feel about Layla given her nature. She was raised to kill and not have any feelings about her actions. The story takes place in Saint Roch, a town where non-humans are very well known by humans, with the exception of all of the types of non-humans running around the city. Layla is a siren who was raised by her mother, we [...]

ARC received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review ;)Usually, I would probably give this book 4/4,5 stars but I loved the vivid and entertaining writing style so much that I decided to bump it up to full 5 ;) and especially for a debut novel :) it was a fantastic read, full of interesting characters and lots of twists and turns that I certainly did not expect :) full review on the day of the release :)edited to add my full review :)I received an ARC of this fantastic debut novel fr [...]

I want to thank Clare over at Curiosity Quills for sending me this book for review.“My name is Layla. And I am a siren.”Layla is an assassin, who uses her gifts to lure people into death. She is one of the best and she gets best good money to kill people. But one day, what she felt like what would be a hard mission turns out to be even worse. The whole assassination plan on two human brothers goes mad, and soon, the assassin becomes a target.***That is a strong first novel, let me tell you. Y [...]

*I received this book from Curiosity Quills in exchange for a honest review*This book does not contain your average fantasy creatures. In this world there are succubi, incubus, dragons, snakes or lizard people, phoenix people, and most importantly the main character who is a siren. And of course is a city where crime never sleeps, it is perfect for an assassin. Layla uses her siren powers to lure those interested in her to their deaths which look like accidents. This started out VERY entertainin [...]

*Source* Publisher*Genre* Urban Fantasy*Rating* 3.5-4*MY Thoughts*Death of an Assassin is the first book in debut author Ian Hiatt's Saint Roch City series. The story is narrated by 19-year old protagonist Layla, who is not only a bounty hunter, but also a Siren. In case you are wondering, yes I did just finish another series that featured a Siren. But, Layla is so much better at what she does. Layla is paid very handsomely to rid the city of thieves, dealers, enforcers, and other not so pleasan [...]

This book was a quick read that I really enjoyed. It puts people who live in legends, into modern day. How the main character is a siren who works as an assassin, and makes all her deaths look like accidents. How the people who are supernatural beings have longer social security numbers. I was drawn into this book on page one and couldn't put it down. Though there were a few parts that I felt could have used a little more detail.I loved how when she starts to fall in love it changes her whole w [...]

A book that I just could not put down! I was hooked from the beginning of this seductive story of family and murder. And this was my second reading, so even knowing what would happen, I was transported to the world of Saint Roch City, running along side Layla (the main character) as her world gets kicked into the sewers. The language is strong, but not in an overly so way. It fits the situations perfectly, expressing the right amount of passion and emotions we all can relate to.

Layla is a Siren in Saint Roch City. And she is an assassin. She just got paid to knock of on scion of the Donahue's family. Now she is asked to take out two Donahue brothers at an engagement party. Of course things go wrong and Layla is on thr run trying to find out who she needs to kill to get her life back. If she want her old life back. A quick, explosive read that has a nice twisted ending.

Marketing works! After reading the free sample of this sponsored book, I paid to download the rest. Very creative, quick read. 3.5 stars - and I'll read the next one in the series when it's released.
