Please note that I gave this book half a star but rounded it up to 1 star for . Has been done better by others out there. Who knew a book about a serial killer and a former case involving another serial killer could be boring. Taking place in Virginia and Washington, D.C. (FYI authors, guess what, you can't drive from Quantico from Washington, D.C. in 30 minutes) we follow FBI Special Agent Paige Riley who is still recovering from her last encounter with a serial killer. Apparently no one is as [...]

This one gets an extra star solely because the writer seems to like serial killers Criminal Minds as much as I do. Also Silence of the Lambs. Okay premise, pretty bad execution. For a clever woman, Riley was kind of an idiot sometimes. A word of advice, writers? Please don't try too hard to make the reader like the MC. That effort is definitely going to backfire. P.S. I've seen so much of said T.V. show, and read so much about serial killers, the profile, and by extension the plot kind of became [...]

3.5/4 stars. Loved the cliffhanger ending pretty good book. A couple mistakes here and there but pretty good. I like this author. His books grab me and make me want to read them.

English:It was my first book of the author and it was "free" on Google Play Store. one thing that I could say about this book and it is "OUTSTANDING". I really got shocked by this book, cause I didn't expect it to be such a great book. I actually didn't like it, but loved it!while reading this book I felt as if I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds, which I love it too. very well written and compiled with a interesting story that focused mostly on the main plot, rather than other things, m [...]

Despite a strong start, the main character is dumb and not likable. The repetitiousness of arrest, no wrong guy was tedious.

I tried hard to finish this book but it ultimately wasn't worth it for me.The numerous things that annoyed me about it include the following:The writer kept mixing up character names including 2 of the victims and the locations their bodies were found. Some of the dialogue was stilted. Clues seemed to be either thrust at the FBI agents from an overly talkative shopkeeper ex-machina or were glaringly obvious but made out by the writer to be a stroke of genius on the part of the FBI agent who spott [...]

The basic premise was good but the main character was terrible. The more I thought about it, the angrier it made me. No one, FBI agent or not, would get away with acting like that. First, there is no way Riley would be allowed to return to work in that condition. Then, she thinks how wonderful she is at understanding evil and everyone else, including. the partner she adores, is so dumb. And yet she's the one who gets herself caught by a serial killer, not once, but twice for not following protoc [...]

Every once in a while you find yourself in a gloomy, cloudy kind of afternoon where you just have to sit back and say to yourself, “How about a murder mystery?” Or is that just me?Either way, this book certainly filled that morbid little hole in my heart. It clocks in at just a hair over 200 pages and flows at a nice brisk canter the whole way through – perfect to finish in one sitting with a blanket and a cup of tea. I love when a plot’s wrapped up nice and tight, and this book delivers [...]

Loved it! It kept me interested the whole way through

Started out strong but then kinda lost me. Overall it just felt really derivative -- of Silence of the Lambs and also of another book I read with a similar plot (The Doll Maker.) I got that the main character was under duress but her actions seemed kind of ridiculous toward the end and the red herrings seemed to be more tossed silly nilly into the story rather than being more woven into the plot.

A fast paced gripping thriller. I really enjoyed the first book in the Riley Paige Mystery series. The writing was tight and the action kept on coming. The main character, Riley Paige was flawed and believable. I'd certainly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good crime novel. Will definitely read the other Riley Paige novels.

Riley is foolhardy with a serious death wish so boohoo to all her sorrows and issues. I really expected more from this read but it was like watching a really bad imitation of a criminal minds episode that revolves around one narcissistic character. I DO NOT recommend this read.

There is something about this creepy murder mystery that I just LOVE. It has so many elements that remind me of Silence of the Lambs. Now I am on to the second book which picks up right after the first one can't wait!

While the basic premise of this book is really good and rather intriguing, its execution (excuse the pun) left a lot to be desired. My biggest problem was the main character, for an intelligent woman she constantly behaved like a complete idiot, making error after error and getting herself caught by the psychotic killer she was chasing. Add to that the fact that she had already been caught by one, you think she would have learned a lesson but no. That aside, I found the other characters a little [...]

Amazing! A really goodriller. This book was the kind of book that makes it a little hard to be alone in the house. One because you can't get anything done, can't put it down. Two because, it creeps the ba' geezers out of ya! I am going to start the next one now. W/o carers about a messy house anyway?

Should have trusted my instinctsRiley talks about her amazing instincts a lot but frankly I was not impressed. How many innocent people did she have to attack or arrest with all guns blazing before she finally stumbled across the right man. A bit of caution would have been advisable.

An interesting thrillerThis author knows how to grab and hold a readers attention. This is the first by Blake Pierce that I have read but it won't be the last. The way the words create the image in the readers head is exactly what I want in a book and exactly what I found here.

a very thrilling story with lots of twists and turns keeping you in the edge of your seat. the story is well thought out however I do wish there is more backstory as something's are not explained even though this is the first book in the series.

I thought it was a little ridiculous that she kept thinking the wrong people were suspects. She was so sure so sure so sure and then so not sure after talking with them for five minutes. Maybe that's realistic but it's irritating!

This book was full of mystery and excitement you always wanted to know what happened next. I personally couldn't put the book down, I was hooked. The characters were all so differentDetective Bill was a main character in the book, his partner, Riley Paige. Bill is good, but without his partner by his side to crack cases, it's more difficult. He misses his partner and wishes for her to come back. Riley Paige has been through a very tough last year. In one case, it went the wrong way, and Riley wa [...]

If you enjoy psychological thrillers this book is well worth a read. Fast paced with plenty of suspense I found it an easy and enjoyable read. The action is very much driven by the central character, FBI agent Riley Paige. My one niggle with the read was she was too traumatised by past events and out of control to be allowed to be working as an agent out in the field, let alone on the case of a serial killer and she took too many unnecesary risks. Putting that aside I thoroughly enjoyed the read [...]

Good story.tient leadPlot and flow of the book I really liked. My big issue with this story is the lead characters impatience. Not once but multiple times does Riley Page rush into a dangerous situation with no back up WHEN SHE COULD HAVE WAITED!!! This made me so angry. Other than that I did enjoy slowly discovering her back story. Definitely want to read the second book in the series.

I don't read a lot of mystery books so I enjoyed this book. I knew what the ending would be, but I still enjoyed it

Boy, am I glad I found this author. These books keep me riveted to the pages, not wanting to pause for a minute. The characters are very well developed and you get a very real feeling of what they are going through.Special Agent Riley Paige is still recovering from her last dark encounter with a serial killer when another comes on the scene. This one with a fetish for dolls. The strange ways he poses his victims, the stages he sets lead Riley on a twisted path into madness as she endeavours to i [...]

"Riley closed her eyes, bringing her imagination fully into play. She felt lightheaded, even dizzy. It was a sensation that she knew all too well—a feeling of falling into an abyss, into a terrible black void, into the killer’s evil mind. She was stepping into his shoes, into his experience. It was a dangerous and terrifying place to be. But it was where she belonged, at least right now. She embraced it."A pretty good thriller with a believable heroine. I have to admit I enjoyed it a lot mor [...]
