Not everyone whose family needs to heal from personal tragedy would take their family to post Katrina Mississippi, but Maxine Davies (Mad Max) isn’t just anyone. She's brave, adventuresome, compassionate and caring, but Uncharted Territory isn't just a feel good story. In the second Mad Max novel, Betsy Ashton takes us on a personal and actual journey of mystery and intrigue with dead bodies galore and secrets hidden in the destruction. Max's first obligation is to her family, especially ensur [...]

You can't envy Mad Max. Her daughter was murdered and she now has two motherless grandchildren. On top of that, her son-in-law works on projects all over the world. What else can Max do but travel along with the family and fill the maternal breach. But nothing in her life prepared her for the chaos and violence of post-Katrina Mississippi. Survival is something she can no longer take for granted. Thoroughly enjoyable read with break taking moments of suspense.

I thoroughly enjoyed Uncharted Territory. I liked Mad Max in Ashton's first book, Unintended Consequences, but liked Max even more this time. She did a great job with all the characters--so much so that I could picture them all. All her research paid off. Her description of the barren wasteland of post-Katrina Mississippi was the best I've heard, and I felt like I was right there.

Katrina talesIt brought back merriest, both good and bad. The book is extremely evocative of the desolation wrought by the storm and the goodness of those who came to help.
