I enjoyed the short stories well enough, especially one about the soldiers playing football on Christmas Day during WW1, without regard for enemy lines. Clearly no matter how poor people were during the stories here, they wanted to make an effort for Christmas Day, men as well as women, and rations were supplemented, neighbours contributed or children made decorations. Some of the stories tell of a budding romance, others of overcoming an obstacle. A good fun tale describes a train getting block [...]

I picked this book up at a recent church sale as I recognized most of the authors. I enjoyed the 6 Christmas themed short stories and they were a welcome change after a particularly long last read The short stories were a pleasure to read and I soon got through them, but unfortunately they only filled half of the book the rest was filled with extracts from books by the same authors. I didn't read these as I don't like to read a chapter or so of a book without the rest, I know that it's supposed [...]

A Lovely Collection Of 6 Short Stories, Set Around Christmas. In Particular, I Can Enjoyed “The Gift”, Depicting Soldiers During WWI. This Is Probably A Story We All Have Heard In One Way Or Another But With A New Spin. As Usual With Stories That Tug At My Heart Strings, I Wished It Had Been Longer. This One Stood Out The Most To Me Of The 6. What I Wasn’t So Keen On Were The Extracts From Another Of Each Of The Authors Books. I Only Picked This Up At The Library With It Coming To The Fest [...]

I know it's February but even though these are essentially Christmas stories this book can be read any time of the year and give you a real warm glow. Written by 6 authors all the stories have a Christmas theme running through them, perfect for snuggling down in your duvet on a cold winters' night. All the stories are well written and worth the read, I particularly liked The Gift by Margaret Dickinson and A Wounded Christmas by Mary Wood; the first is about 1914 soldiers in the trenches and how [...]
