Cutesy law enforcement story with suspense and a killer on the loose. I will admit I chose to read this for the prison violence tag but it was over once it started. Everything is solved, love prevails between an alpha cop and his lover. Very sweet and romantic. No rating. Thanks to the author and the team for the story.:)

This was written from my prompt and it was EXACTLY what I asked for! My apologies to Janel for taking so long to write this review. I got slammed and then forgot. Yes, I'm terrible. I love the characters, the plot, the drama and peril. I LOVE danger and near-death stuff and she gave me a lot of it. I wish the story had been longer, but that's just because I enjoyed it so much. The DRC events don't give authors a lot of time to write, and so short stories are the norm. I hope she writes a full le [...]

Okay premise, but the writing's not there. Choppy, no real characterization, flat dialogue--and that silliness where a guy gets beaten up and threatened with rape, but he's good to have sex the next day. -__-

Hot cops, love and DRAMA. Super sweet tone even with a dead body and violence. Liked the men and believed that with expansion it would be less frenetic and give the reader more time to feel what the characters feel.

Wow, what a fun short story. It's sweet, sexy, intense and it will make you tear up before you finish reading. The supporting characters are just as fun and interesting as the main characters. The action twists and turns in very exciting and suspenseful directions. My only complaint (and my usual one with great short stories) is that this could so easily be expanded into a really hot M/M Romance novel. (Hint, hint.) Way to help me celebrate my 4th of July, with some m/m fireworks and all. Thanks [...]

Heading up towards 3.5 starsGood contemporary mystery/detective story. When Jake receives an e-mail allegedly from his police officer partner to meet up at an unknown address he goes along, only to find two murder victims. It's his partner Paul that arrests him and not until he's in prison is it discovered that Jake definitely had nothing to do with it. The pair are moved to a safe house, under the watch of two other police officers - who have their own relationship just starting - whilst the re [...]

Something longer would have been better, especially with the ending. It felt a bit rushed. Still, it was an enjoyable story and I liked the characters.

My biggest problem with this story is that there is a lot of telling instead of showing. Scenes are explained by the author where they should have been expanded on. It makes everything fly by at breakneck speed, leaving the reader no time to really connect with the characters. The only scene that I felt had enough detail was the sex scene, which I skimmed because without any real investment in the characters, I didn't care about their bedroom antics. There was no tension in a story that should h [...]

2.5 stars round up for author donating her time to write this story.I felt that the author had shortchanged the majority of police procedures in this story to fit what she had written. It felt too high handed, for me, and a bit too much for my suspended disbelief. Some of the dialogues felt stiff while some others felt overwrought. There were some parts that works that I felt that the parts that didn't overshadowed them for me.How Jake ended up in prison didn't work for me at all. (view spoiler)[ [...]

It was Ok so 2 stars, but not my thing.Sadly this just didn't work for me. It felt rather choppy plotwise (view spoiler)[ arrested, somehow sent straight to prison, beat up, rescued, safe house, sex in safe house with buddy cops in next room (right after arrest and beating?).(hide spoiler)]. It was all too staccato and I couldn't get into the story properly - I kept thinking it wasn't right and so it jarred me from the "reading zone". Also the sub-plot romance was unnecessary and merely added to [...]

Rating overviewWriting: ★★★★★Story: ★★★Characters: ★★★★Overall: ★★★★ (4)~~~Chapeau Ms White for a very decent mystery debut. I have to say this story is very basic in plot and lacks some attention to detail but overall I really enjoyed it. Another Love's Landscapes that should totally be turned into a full-length!

First off this is a first time pub for a first time author so well done on that. The story and plot are well put together, but lacked the emotional depth needed for this kind of story.Though some part remind me of a few other stories I read, I still found the it entertaining. A good solid 3 star read :)

Offered for FREE from the M/M Romance Group's Love's Landscapes event. Thank you too all the amazing authors who participated!

Paul arrested his lover for murder of course he didn't do it but things pointed to that way. After this trust has been broken and now can they mend what has been broken . And with the help of fellow cops will they find the real killer

Kind of like a two-for-one - this is a great story of love prevailing in the face of misunderstanding and the need to rebuild trust in relationship that is only just establishing itself.Drama, suspense and interesting characters that ooze sex appeal, a worthwhile short read, for sure.

To have such a short story split between two couples took away from the main couple. Plus I didn't really believe the bad guy or in the police procedures. I didn't really connect with the characters at all.

[NOTE: I rate most writing event stories (free reads) 4 or 5 stars because of my appreciation of the author's participation and gift.]

This is a gripping and powerful story of trust, risk, forgiveness, and love.

Fast paced and exciting story wish it was longer.

This was an interesting read with lots of potential but it was rushly written and the emotional parts were predictable and too cheesy

I liked it but it didn't offer anything different. Gotta love a nicely written free story though.
