  • Boom Snot Twitty Three unlikely friends, and three different ways of being in the world This simplest of stories is a fable for life.
    Doreen Cronin Renata Liwska
Doreen Cronin was a practicing attorney in Manhattan when her first book Click, Clack Moo Cows That Type became a publishing success But her book was not published overnight, in fact, she had written this barnyard tale even before attending law school but only received rejection letters from publishers Five years after submitting the original manuscript she got a call from a publisher who wanted to turn her story into a book and the rest is history The busy life of a writer left no room for courtroom litigation and arbitration so Doreen made the leap to being a full time children s book author She then teamed up once again with illustrator Betsy Lewin to write another hilarious barnyard tale, Giggle, Giggle, Quack, that continues the escapades of these lovable animals on a farm.In Doreen s latest book, Diary of a Worm, she explores the daily life of a lovable worm Who knew that the underground dwellings and activities of worms could be so funny Readers may even find that worm s life is much the same as theirs except worm eats his homework and his head looks a whole lot like his rear Doreen was born in Queens and grew up in Long Island She graduated from Pennsylvannia State University and St John s University School of Law She currently resides in New York with her husband and dog Ruffie.

I was disappointed in this contribution by the fantastic Doreen Cronin. I read the book through once and was unclear on its message, its plot and any relation between the characters: boom, a bear; Twitty, a bird & Snot, a snail. The subtitle on the cover above the title reads " Three unlikely friends. One extraordinary day.For me, the idea that these three are friends was lost; they seemed more like acquaintances who happened to be in the same place at the same time--like when your mom has a [...]

The third star is because of the lovely illustrations.

I love the illustrations in this book. This book shows three friends who react differently to the same circumstances but remain friends despite their differences. The delivery of the message is probably a bit too abstract for the preschool crowd to pick up on the message but the simple word choice and sentence structure make it appear to be written for this age group. However, this is a message we could all be reminded of (the three characters respond differently to each situation but don't seem [...]

Sweet illustrations and very spare text make this a good one for dialogic reading. It feels like it would be natural for a grownup to ask her child, "What is Boom doing?" or "How is Snot feeling?" These friends have very distinct ways of being in the world, and it could be fun to snuggle and spend a little time with a kiddo thinking about these animals (bear, snail, and bird) and making observations about their day.

I love it when a picture book features beautifully drawn illustrations that don't crowd the page. The whimsical pencil drawings are painted in muted tones and reflect perfectly the tone of the story, which teaches children 'the power of now' and the simple pleasures that can be found when we live in the moment.

While this story is beautifully illustrated, I found the actual names of the characters (a bear, a snail and a bird respectively) to be off putting for the adult reader and giving children the excuse to yell "snot!" when they refer to this book. I love the authors "Click,Clack,Moo:Cows that type" and it's sequel, but I feel that the mark is slightly missed with this book.

I chose this book because it has the word "snot" in the title. I wasn't over the moon over this one like I have been over some of the author's other books. However, it is sweet enough and beautifully illustrated.

The illustrations for this book were beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This sweet picture book has a terrific message for young readers about friendship. The three friends in this story all have different interests and temperaments. But their diversity serves as their strength, and they get along very well. The softly colored illustrations are very warm and inviting for children. This would be a great book to have on the primary classroom bookshelf.

I read the sequel before reading this and loved it. This one is wonderful too! The solid depiction of friendship is engaging. First Line: "Boom, Snot, and Twitty relaxed by the tree and waited for the day to begin."

Spend a day with three unlikely friends Boom (a bear), Snot (a snail), and Twitty (a robin) as they yarn bomb a tree, ride the wind, and sit out a storm. A short and sweet tail with beautiful illustrations.

It took a while to figure out which one was Boom, which one was Snot (love the name), and which one was Twitty. All have their separate way of going through life.

This was a story of three friends. The animals are cute but it felt like the story never landed where I thought it would go. My child thought it was o.k.

Snot was quite snotty. It would be hard to read this book aloud because I find the characters annoying.

While I don’t understand the story at all, the illustrations are magnificent. Colorful yarn = happy heart.

Felt whiny to read. Not my favorite

I enjoyed the illustrations, but apart from that this book has nothing to offer.

Boom the Bear, Snot the Snail and Twitty the Bird are friends. The three do not always agree on what to do with their time. Boom is more adventurous, Twitty is more afraid, and Snot likes to go with the moment. Throughout the story, a good deal of crocheting is happening. During a storm, Boom runs, Twitty hides and Snail rides the waves made from the rain. The illustrations in this book are absolutely adorable. They have a warm fuzzy feel to them. But I do not get the story line. Sure, I understa [...]

Originally published on my blog, Nine Pages.I really enjoyed Boom Snot Twitty. This I read at a story hour that either on purpose or by accident focused on close friendships. One of the girls who was at the story time got hung up on Snot’s name and would not believe me when I said that it might be a perfectly beautiful name for a snail. I didn’t expect this to be such a point of contention, and when it arose, I hoped to be able to make it a learning experience about not teasing someone becaus [...]

Cronin, Doreen. Boom Snot Twitty (2014). The story is about three friends and their day together. There is Boom, the teddy bear; Snot, the snail; and Twitty, the bird. Boom starts to read a book about flying and makes paper airplanes. While Snot reads a book quietly and Twitty knits. Then Boom starts to climb on top of a tree. Snot and Twitty are now knitting together. Suddenly a wind starts to develop, taking Snot away. Boom stands and pretends to fly and Twitty tries to hold on. The winds stop [...]

"Three unlikely friends extraordinary day." You have adventuresome Boom (a bear), industrious Twitty (a bird), and mellow Snot (a snail). Each has a different idea on how to spend their day, and each has different reactions to events based on their personalities. Frankly, I think this book is above the heads of most kids. I had to read it twice myself to really distinguish the personalities. Clearly Snot, who goes with the flow, has the most effective way of dealing with things. I wish Cronin ha [...]

Boom (a bear), Twitty (a bird), and Snot (a snail) are friends with different ideas about what to do and different interpretations about how things are going. The message is rather subtle, but it seems to be about slowing down, noticing things, and being content. You don't have to chase life down, just enjoy the ride. I like the zen of cute little Snot. The snail name is an odd choice though, given that the book is meditative and not at all silly. I admit, the title is what made me pick this up [...]

Rarely have I run across a child’s book that I would call boring, but this one definitely qualifies.Boom the Bear, Snot the Snail and Twitty the Bird are friends that look at the world differently. Boom wants adventure, Twitty likes the status quo and Snot prefers to see if there will be better options. Thus begins the day when a sudden storm arises. This book did not interest me. There was no grab or humor. The illustrations are charming and simple and tell the story, but still, there was some [...]

It is a beautifully-illustrated book with a very sweet story, but I am giving three stars for the name of the snail. "Snot" is not a word I ever encouraged or allowed my children to use, and I do not understand the reason for it being used in this book, not just once but many times. As a children's librarian, I definitely want this book for our collection. The story is lovely and Doreen Cronin is a popular and much-loved author. But because of that word I will not be using it as a storytime book [...]

Boom the bear, Snot the snail and Twitty the bird are friends who spend the day together. Why I started it: I loved both the author and the illustrator for their humor and I couldn't wait to see what they would do together. Why I finished it: It was disappointing. Far too deep for the target audience of children but it would be a good book to talk about personality types; adventurous, nervous or zen.

The illustrations and the interpretation of the text by illustrator Renata Liwska was amazing. I love the subtext of the yarn and how it went from a ball to a tangled mess to a tree trunk wrapping, which ended up being a scarf for bear, then a cape, then a collar. The characters live life differently and towards the end, the characters change and end up adopting each others way of life as represented by the transferring of the yarn. The illustrations were mesmerizing (to me).

I liked the premise of this book because of the various individual personalities that make up friendships. It is short, and opens the door for a lot of dialogic reading because very little of the story is told through words. It is mostly told in pictures. It would be best for a very young audience.

Boom, Snot, and Twitty are friends that all have different ideas about how to spend their day. They also have very different outlooks on the happenings of the day. There's also a lot of knitting that happens in the illustrations.Simple and fun, this is good for preschool or toddler storytimes.
