Hello, I am Simone Beaudelaire, romance enthusiast, freelance proofreader, and novice author In real life, I m a wife, mother, and full time high school French teacher, which doesn t leave me a lot of time for my hobby Of course, that hasn t stopped me yet.I hope I can connect with other readers of romance and other genres I love to read, and through my beta reading group, I have recommendations in all different categories.

I found the authors approach in the book to be a breath of fresh air. There are no great secrets between the H/h which was nice for a change. The idea of the book has been stated in other reviews so I'll just go into the things I loved and the things that didn't work for me.Christopher is the type of man we dream of and it is not his appearance that I speak of but it is his integrity and strong morals. He runs a cotton mill with his father and was taught strong values and general respect for all [...]

It was okay. Not a bad book by any means but I just couldn't love it. The dialogue was really problematic for me. It was too simple and childlike. It didn't convey any complexity and the book was sorely lacking for it. It almost felt like the characters lacked any intelligence. I probably could have understood it in Kat because the author was trying to portray innocence and the damage inflicted by her abuse, if Kat was the only one. However, she did it to Chris too. And everyone else for that ma [...]

**3.5**I had a hard time rating this one. I liked that this book had a purpose, and a very strong one at that: to educate people about domestic abuse. I also liked that it tied in the poetry of Robert Browning (written during the time this book takes place), which had the same purpose. I think an endeavor like this is commendable and overall she did a good job in communicating her message in a good story. With a few caveats. After emphasizing again and again that it would take time (months, year [...]

Moving On Many Levels!I both loved and hated this story. It was beautifully written and researched; an endearing and accurate period piece in Victorian times. Still, the horrors Katerina withstands are hellish. Still, the promise of the story and the love from Christopher, her champion, is moving and heart-felt. Simone Beaudelaire never fails to give an emotional and tender rendition of her tales!I was disturbed by the old traditions and laws regarding women. Still, I know history and this was s [...]

A tale of abuse and love and redemption. So well and touchingly written that you really have to finish it in one sitting. You really hope that she can grow past what happened to her. Add this to your bookshelf. You won't regret it.

I really liked this book, I could tell that the characters really loved each other (even after such a short amount of time). And Simone Beaudelaire really handled the touchy subject of physical abuse well, she really didn't hold anything back, and the descriptions of what happened to Katerina were heartbreaking. But there was one point during this book that I almost quit. It was when Christopher was talking with this father about Katerina and he said to an effect of "I ticks me off when Katerina [...]

Although I like the accurate portrayal of violence against women, the way Katerina's timidity is written doesn't ring true. Even the initial interactions between her and Christopher are too stilted. It's better in the middle, worse again towards the end. There are some huge time discrepancies, with the story set in the 1800s or early 1900s, I'm guessing, but the songs coming from the mid to late 1900s, Simon & Garfunkel? I do like the outspokenness Christopher, his family, and his friends ha [...]

Very Enlighten Victorian Romance, ButI loved the mention of both domestic abuse and mental abuse tied all into one. If one encounters both abuse, one can go into a deep depression. The ending of this book poignantly painted a picture of what that is like to deal with. The only problem I had with the book was that the two characters did not have chemistry in the love connection. I liked the story's accuracy on how women were treated during this Victorian era. For me it was more about injustice to [...]

Horrible , Beautiful StoryTo be an abused child and young woman at any time in history was so horrible , it is almost inconceivable. This heroine is sweet and loving in spite of it all. The man who rescues and marries her is a handsome ,kind hearted wonderful man who takes her from hell to heaven with a few incidents along the way

Good ReadWell written and a story that some people will find poignant. A story about abuse is hard to get through and find happiness at the end. The story of Christopher and Katerina is one that people will find an amazing read to have the privilege of being part of the story.

A Sweet RomanceThe heroine who has had to suffer severe physical abuse from her father, has to learn to trust and love the man who decided to protect her.

SpellbindingTale of horrible abuse and the man who wrote about it. Bringing awareness to the vicious nature of abuse into polite society Robert Browning.

This story had a fresh take, I really loved the story line. It's set in England, maybe 1800s? And a young man marries a young woman to save her from her abusive father. I recommend reading this book!

WonderfulThis was exceptionally written. Even through abuse Katerina found she self and love. Each of us need to see and help those that are abused.

I cried.I got angry.I remembered things that had happened in my past that are better left unmentioned. While I was not abused as a child, the same can't be said about my adult life. The emotional and mental scars take a long time to fade and are difficult to bypass. It becomes difficult to love. To trust. To show affection. You spend so much of your day wearing a façade that it's easier to try to make yourself forget because you don't want to make someone else angry by slipping and showing your [...]

2.5 STARSThere was something missing in this book, I just didn't feel an emotional connection with the characters. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, just that I know it when I read it. The supporting characters didn't stand out, they mostly seemed interchangeable, and I had a hard time keeping track of who was who.The story loses its way when Kat and Christopher go to Italy, it seemed like filler. I wasn't interested in reading about Kat's grandfather having sex with a French mistress t [...]

Immerse yourself in this: The poetic charm of Victorian era London is all around us - immerse yourself in the burgeoning love between a kind and genuine cotton mill owner and a musically gifted damsel under the thumb of a brute.Beaudelaire confronts us with the hardships and inequities of old world dominance and servitude, and in doing so, challenges us with the questionable ideals of our heritage. Did we once allow this kind of deprivation and abuse? These are layers in a powerful story of roman [...]

3.5 STARSHistorically and psychologically this was a very good read. Commenting on some of the reviews that noted the dialogue - I feel like the dialogue was less juvenile and more proper. It spoke to the time in history and where the story takes place (England.) I learned even more than I had known before about women's lack of rights and a man's propriety over them. It was shocking , to say the least. Overall, I enjoyed watching the progression of Christopher and Katerina's relationship. Under [...]

I'm having a problem with this book because it really was a good story about love and overcoming abuse. My problem is that the dialogue felt very juvenile, the whole story was done with a simple narrative of events. If not for the erotic sex scenes and violent content, it really could have passed for a children's book.Further, it's set in Victorian times, and though there was adequate research done with regard to cotton mills and other details, some phraseology was a bit too modern. Like really, [...]

A sticky subject most people don't address in these stories. The author did a good job of showing what it must have been like to suffer in silence for women of that era. She faced some terrible situations that were completely out of her control. Christopher was a chivalrous, kind hearted hero who would have made a wonderful knight! The reader watched as Katerina came out of her shell and lived when given love and affection.

Yes I will recommend this bookIf you enjoy a little history and moral lesson in your reading you will enjoy this book. I admit I did not know this back story about the Browning's but I enjoyed learning. The story was a little slow and predictable in parts but in the end true love and devotion proves that good does triumph over evil.Enjoy a truly charming rescue of Katerina by Christopher.

Five stars!!I loved this story, it was a beautiful love story. I liked the Bennett family, and friends, how they interacted with each other. I loved how Christopher saved Katerina, this is a subject that should be written about more. This author does it very well. Lastly, I loved the steamy scenes.

Ahhhhh! Do you know when you finished a book, it was so good, so romantic that you just sit back and sigh? Well, I just did that. I have been a fan of historical romances my entire life and this one is in my top favourites ever for this genre. Ms. Beaudelaire did such a wonderful job with this book. I really enjoyed this book and I will reread it again and again :)

A bittersweet type of story, more sweet thoA quote "somewhat" from the book because I added a few words. " How convenient to be able not to think about it. ( meaning things or situations that are unpleasant, some of us would rather look the other way.) Those who have to endure ( hardships) do not have the option .

5 ++++++ stars!!!I did not want to put the book down, it was that good I usually don't read these types of books but the Author is so talented I had to try this one out and ended up Loving it.I cried I felt her pain I wanted to go in the book and help her, that all i'm saying about the book you will have to read it to know what i'm talking about :)

I loved this. As a survivor of domestic abuse it was a bit hard to read in some areas(a bit to personal) but it was well written and the story is one of coming from the shadows and entering the light with courage and strength.

In defense of the book, I must admit I enjoyed it. I did not find the dialogue immature. It was a light quick read. I try not compare with other writers or other books of the same genre often. Every author has a different style and level of writing experience. I personally enjoyed it.

AstoundingGreat book. The story line was amazing. The abuse a daughter or a wife suffered was depicted so real and how sometimes even a husband could not help them.

FlatDull dull dull.t a romance novel. Reads like a psychiatrist case file. Boring. Writing is mechanical and absolutely stale. Don't recommend.
