I was asked to read and review this short story in exchange for a free ecopy. This was a wonderful children's tale where Liril wants to give her father something for his birthday but is too poor to buy him anything. An old woman in the village tells her if she will retrieve her locket from the black forest she will give her a magic seed. This quest sends her on an adventure that teaches her to be careful what you wish for and to appreciate what she already has. Full of magic and talking creatures [...]

I liked it. At the beginning, I wasn't sure I would, but I liked it. Uh haha I usually am full of things that I want to say about a book I've just finished, but in this case, being that it's so short (only 25 pages), every time I write what I want to say about it, I erase it just because I don't want to give away too much of the story. So I'll simply say this - it's one of those moments where you've made a wish that you wish you could take back kind of books. For those of you interested in tak [...]

I read this parable as part of the Tales of Arva: Volume 1, and since it was my favorite of those, I wanted to post a review for the individual story, too. Told in the grand tradition of the parable, this story follows Liril, a flighty young girl who wants to find her father a birthday present but ends up on a quest for a mysterious old witch. Instead of completing the quest, she decides to keep the object the witch desires and causes no end of trouble with her careless wishes. The story teaches [...]

Young and immature girl named Liril; and also poor; was one day out in the garden doing the chores of the day, when she thought what to get to her papa as it was coming his birthday. She wanted to give him something special, but as she only had one silver coin- besides the fact that her mama didn't wanted her to spent money on a item- she escaped and went alone to the market. In there she realizes she really doesn't have anything at all and starts to weep, but an old lady makes her to go on a jou [...]

The Tale of Liril is a perfect bedtime story for younger children, a fun read for middle grade children and an endearing return to childhood for adults like myself. For those of us who grew up on Hansel and Gretel, Red Riding Hood, and other fairy tale classics it’s wonderful to have a new one join the ranks of these great stories. The Tale of Liril is full of adventure, fast-paced, charmingly simple, and just the right length to cuddle up with before bedtime.

Simplistic, easy to follow story for a younger reading set about tenacity, truth, and being happy with what one has. I read this book in one sitting and would recommend it for middle school and above for a quick reminder of some good morals we all need to follow. I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.

into the woods? This book reminded me of the musical into the woods. A girl goes into the woods the find something for a witch and after she makes some wishes she realizes her mistake. Good short story and I highly recommend it.

It was free on a few days ago- it was a cute read, but definitely a lot shorter than I expected.

A short story told in the manner of a fairy tale. Really interesting and a lesson to be learned in the end makes this a really good choice for any middle grader.
