This book is about the second son of an Austrian émigré, Anthony Drexel (1826-1893) who became a pre-eminent financial mind in the Philadelphia currency brokerage his father began in 1838. Drexel initiated partnership with J. P. Morgan and his father, Junius that became the most powerful financial combination of the Gilded Age.The first part of the book is about Francis Drexel and how he came to leave Austria. Then the author tells about Tony Drexel’s early life. The remainder of the book is [...]

Confession Time: I actually went to the library with a similar, yet different book on my list of books to check out. When I got to that book, Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World it looked massive and at 564 pages, I think most people would agree. Having studied my undergrad at Drexel University, it seemed to me that every good Dragon should know about the man who founded the university. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I especially liked to see which of the Drexel historic buildings are still left. It was a pretty easy read but at times was somewhat dull.

An excellent book on a man who history has largely forgotten.
