First and foremost, I love to read Fantasy, sci fi, historical, romance, and horror are my favorites I am an author of historical romance, paranormal, and fantasy When I m not volunteering for the IS Foundation, writing, or surfing my social networking sites, I can be found on the slopes, the hiking trails, or paddleboarding As a native Oregonian, I enjoy the outdoors almost as much as the worlds I create on the pages No need to travel to the Great Northwest, though, you can find me on my website, and the first Monday of every month on Twitter where I co moderate the WritersRoad chat.

Grendar is officially my new favorite dragon. He's the ultimate underdog. Picked on from the egg, too shy to tell the girl he loves how he feels, and constantly bullied by an overgrown brute of a dragon, you'll be rooting for Grendar from the first page. As he grows and matures throughout the book, I found myself cheering with his every victory and sighing over each defeat. If you've never read fantasy before, this is the book to introduce you. And if you're a fantasy fan, welcome the newest sta [...]

Anyone who says they don't like dragons are LYING! That is why I was excited when Heather McCorkle asked me to read The Dragon Empire. This is a story about a young adult dragon named Grendar and his coming of age tale. First of all, let's talk about said dragons. This book paints a brilliant picture of dragons all sizes and colors, from "gem" dragons, like Grendar, who are described looking just like gemstones.hence the name. Grendar is a green emerald dragon, but sapphire, ruby and others are [...]

This story, The Dragon Empire, is exactly what this dragon lover wanted and needed in a fantasy story. Heather, kudos for a job well done.Grendar grew on me from page one. He's a very likable character, the kind of person we all know and want to root for. Or maybe it's my fascination with the underdog's tale that drew Grendar closer to my heart with each turn of the page. By the end, I wished I had a pair of frilly pom poms to cheer for him and for those in his corner. Suffice it to say, I'm dig [...]

I confess, I haven't read much in the way of dragon fantasy, but thanks to author, Heather McCorkle, that's going to change. Grendar and his emerald lady love quickly found a way into my heart. I can't wait for the next book in this series. If you're mad about heroic quests, sympathetic lead characters, and sexual tension - don't be "dragon" your heelsput The Dragon Empire on your list of must reads.

I haven't read a book with a non-human main character in awhile. This book often had me forgetting the characters were dragons because it was so easy to relate to them. I felt an instant sympathy with Grendar.

Told from a dragon's point of view, this tale of bravery and self-sacrifice is a must read for fantasy fans. It's more mature than Heather's earlier work~geared more for an older YA audience and adults I believe~so be prepared for a bit of violence and some difficult subject matter such as bullying and assault.

I received a free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review. The Dragon Empire is about a young male dragon, Grendar. He is bullied by higher-class dragons, and he is struggling to became a full grown dragon ready to take on the world. When he sees his bullies doing something forbidden, what will happen? And how will it affect his friend Ashanti, whom he desperately wants to be with? What I liked about this book: The plot. I really, really enjoyed how this plot kept getting deeper as the story [...]

I had high hopes for this book (who can resist dragons as the protagonists?), but the poor grammar ruined it for me. I had a difficult time moving past such errors as using the word "accept" when "except" was the proper choice. The editing problems gave the story the feeling of a junior high student's first attempt at writing fiction--despite a rather good story line. I wish I could give a higher rating, but I don't plan to read the sequel(s), nor do I plan to recommend the book to my friends.
