Stephanie Laurens was born in Sri Lanka, which was at the time the British colony of Ceylon When she was 5, her family moved to Melbourne, Australia, where she was raised After continuing through school and earning a Ph.D in Biochemistry in Australia, Stephanie and her husband moved to Great Britain, taking one of the last true overland journeys from Katmandu to London.Once in London, Stephanie and her husband both began work as research scientists in Kent They lived in an area surrounded by history Their own cottage was built in the 16th century, while next door were the protected ruins of an early Roman villa, and nearby was a 14th century castle. After four years in England, Stephanie and her husband returned to Australia, where she continued to work in cancer research, eventually heading her own research laboratory One evening Stephanie realized that she did not have any of her favorite romance novels to read After years of thinking about writing her own novel, during nights and weekends for the next several months, she began crafting her own story That manuscript, Tangled Reins, was the first of her books to be published After achieving a level of success with her novels, Stephanie retired from scientific research and became a full time novelist Her novels are primarily historical romances set in the Regency time period.Stephanie and her husband live on peaceful acreage on the outskirts of Melbourne If she isn t writing, she s reading, and if she s not reading, she s tending her garden.

For some strange reason I have never read anything by this author before which is odd because a) I love Regency romancesb) She is an extremely prolific writer and c) She lives in Australia and can therefore be claimed as an Aussie author. Anyway I enjoyed my first sortie into her books, starting way down the list at number 11 in a series! The Regency aspect was well done - Georgette Heyer would be proud of her. She would not of course have approved of all the sex scenes and I myself got tired of [...]

I'll be honest and say I didn't really care for the last couple of books in this series. While they were enjoyable, I was frustrated with the characters. Michael and Caro were a nice change. They were both strong characters that were likable. Once again, I'm invested in the world of the Cynsters.

Again with the Cynsters in RLftCI. We decided to go in chronological order instead of published order, so we'll be skipping around the series a bit from this one on. I was ready to read this one until the time came to do it. Then I found myself not in the right mood for a Laurens book. I had a hard time getting into it, and this time I don't think it was the author at fault. It took me until a little over halfway through before I was really interested. The characters were good in this one, both [...]

Another wonderful addition to this series!Michael Anstruther Wetherby, Honorias brother has crossed 30 and single. He is in the political sphere, starts feelings pangs of being single and in desperate need a wife.He sets his eyes on Elizabeth, the young 19 year old who he thinks will suit his political ambitions.Sadly, his well laid plans are thwarted by Elizabeth's aunt, Caroline Sutcliffe, known as the Merry Widow, who has her own scars to hide behind her charming nature. As he realizes the in [...]

Hurt in a previous marriage Caro doesn't want any relationship until she meets Michael. Michael has to convince her that he's there because he wants her not what she can bring to him. Sweet, sometimes sad book. Enjoyed it. A couple of mysteries to go with it too.

stephanie laurens pertama yg ku baca yg ngebuat aq ngotot pengen koleksi novel SL yg lain terutama yg cynster serieseal bride bercerita ttg Michael Anstruther-Wetherby (xixixixixi tumben ya aq inget nama lengkap begini???), seorang anggota parlemen. michael adl kakak ipar dari Devil Cynster, the Duke of St. Ives. ingin mendapat posisi lebih tinggi tapi kondisi mengharuskan michael untuk segera menikahndangannya jatuh pada ellisabeth (kagak ingat nama belakangnya). ellisabeth dari keluarga terkem [...]

2.5 starsWhen I first started reading historical romances I used to love the Cynster books by Stephanie Laurens. I don't know what happened but I just can't get into them like I used to. Maybe it's my fault and my taste changed too much in the years since I started reading them or maybe it's the writing that changed. Anyway, I'm not enjoying them like I used to. The Ideal Bride wasn't a bad book. It was just a little too long, with not enough happening in it for my taste. I found myself skimming [...]

I felt this book dragged way too much. There was way too many erotic scenes for me. I want to skip them but I don't because I feel that I might miss somethingI don't. I know it is a mystery book too but I do not consider it to be much of a mystery if I figure out who the bad guy is a quarter of the way into the book.

I enjoyed this book more that the last couple in this series, thankfully. I would have liked to give it 3 1/2 stars. But, oh well. This story of Michael and Caro was still a bit too slow moving for my tastes. And too many pages devoted to the sex. Fortunately, that dissipated as the book progressed. Michael is a diplomat knowing that promotion requires a wife who can actively support him . Caro is the widow of a diplomat who is trying to dissuade him from his choice. It worked. However, they dis [...]

Even though she’s very accomplished in the diplomatic milieu, Caroline is determined not to act as a political or diplomatic hostess for any man ever again. But all that diplomatic experience made it almost easy for her to manage people without seeming to be a managing woman. So why can’t she manage Michael?Michael has been very successful in his diplomatic career, but to be seriously considered for the next appointment, he must be a married man. So he chooses a young woman he thinks will be [...]

Honoria's brother, Michael Anstruther-Wetherby, is looking forward to a bright future in politics, but he needs a wife. He thinks he's found the perfect woman in Elizabeth, a young and innocent miss, but her widowed aunt Caroline is against the match. Caro has vast experience in the political and diplomatic field, and finds herself the new target of Michael. This one falls back in time, ten years before the previous book (The Perfect Lover), and taking place right after Amelia marries, so that's [...]

I have to say that I'm really glad that I read this, It's been a while for me since I've read Stephanie Laurens as I have largely turned off historicals recently. I was charmed by Caro and Michael, by their maturity and ease with each other. The characters had an easy respect for each other and a friendship and understanding that made their relationship development believable. While the plot was formulaic, even down to Caro's innocence and the mystery sub-plot that wasn't that mysterious I enjoy [...]

This book was just OK. It was slow moving and I never felt excited while reading it. It took me much longer to read than most books do.

When you read any romance novel, you expect a little skin but this book had way too much. I skipped over nearly a third of the book because there was so much. It was boring.

This novel follows Michael Anstruther-Wetherby (he was tangentially introduced in Devil's Bride, as he's Honoria's younger brother)during his search for the perfect political wife someone who is passably pretty, who is a talented hostess and will help him in every step of his career. We've got the normal "what I think I want" vs. "what will make me happy" tension in that he originally picks a young, malleable gal and eventually sees the error of his ways, and there's the trademark Laurens sensua [...]

Aristocratic, elegant, and effortlessly charming, Michael Anstruther-Wetherby is a man destined for power. With his close connections to the influential Cynster family, Michael’s future in Parliament appears assured, except that he lacks the single most important element of success: a wife.Driven to seek a gently bred young lady, he discovers such a paragon. But there is an obstacle in his path: her beautiful, strong-minded young aunt, Caroline Sutcliffe.A woman of style and status, Caro will [...]

Ahh, The Ideal Bride , not bad but not a fav either. Gave this 3 1/2 stars because I figured out the villain half way through the novel. I liked Caro and Michael but I wasn't head over heels with them as much as I wanted to be. The meat and bones of the story was all about the world of politics and diplomacy, somewhat fascinating and well researched. I did get captivated by Viscount Breckenridge (whose secret I pieced together BEFORE it was revealed), and look forward to his story in the future. [...]

1.5 stars (rounding up because the next book I read was awful and this was slightly better)So needlessly, endlessly long. (I kept checking the Kindle status notifications to find out when this book was going to end.) And with characters I didn't particularly care for or understand motivations. h/t: SBTB

The only Stephanie Laurens book that was slightly boring, though I liked how Caroline Sutcliffe kept her own when faced with Michael Anstruther-Wetherby.Nevertheless, I refuse to believe that he could really be so handsome that she'd fall under his spell that quickly! *two seconds into seeing him*

I have loved every book in this series.I always enjoy the Cynster family books .

    A good romantic story.

Eh, typical romance. Stephanie Laurens (if that's her real name) does enjoy writing convoluted sentences.

Really Liked This One Rating 4.5THE IDEAL BRIDE is the eleventh Cynster series book. This book doesn't actually have a Cynster as a hero or heroine. It is the story of Honoria Cynster's brother Michael Anstruther-Wetherby who is now a Member of Parliament who has better prospects if he can only find himself a wife. He goes Tobias family home with the expectation that he will ask a neighbor to marry him. He soon discovers, however, that he is more interested in the young woman's aunt than in her. [...]

Once again if you skip the pages and pages of superfluous sex scenes, this book's pace and storyline are great. Politics in any generation cannot be easy to describe, and although there is not much meat as to actual events of this time, the author does a good job of describing the process of diplomacy and political maneuvering. The mystery portion did not hold my interest, but the character development did. I did wonder about Breckenridge. My understanding of the laws of the time is that a son d [...]

Michael Anstruther-Wetherby needs a wife to rise further in Parliament and fixes his sights on a young lady only to find an obstacle in the form of her aunt, the young widow Caroline Sutcliffe.Caroline isn't really interested in marriage, her previous experience has her a bit embittered, however Michael is attractive and atttentive and distracting. She's also finding that life as a widow doesn't allow her to follow her ability to steer a diplomat's life. The two of them are great together and sep [...]

Another one of the Cynster series. However, this book marks the shift that takes place from concentrating on the Cynster family to the various brothers/cousins of the Cynster wives we met earlier in the series. At this stage (if reading in order) there has been only one example of this in Chillingworth's story All About Passion. It follows the typical formula for these books with a strong male who decides he has met the woman for him and will do anything to convince her that she wants him too. A [...]

Some differences with the previous instalments in this series : the hero needs a wife for professional reasons, has his mind set on practical and pragmatic requirements and not much expectations regarding romance. However his aim is an enjoyable marriage of convenience, so to say.The heroine is a widow, who married very young, was and is still very accomplished socially but quite unsure of herself personnally speaking. There was for once a good reason why Caro did not want to marry but was perfec [...]

Review - The protagonist isn't actually a Cynster, but a relative of one of the Cynster wives (as a lot of the next ones also appear to be). I think The Ideal Bride is my least favourite Cynster book to date. It just didn't grab me as much as the earlier ones did. I felt it picked up a bit once the relationship was established - before that it dragged. Laurens's style was no worse than in the previous ones and her characters were as likeable as ever, but I just felt that the storyline was slow i [...]
