Great for youngstersMy 6 year old really enjoys listening, however it is a little hard to read by herself. Especially since the Heidi H. books contain a lot of text and not so much illustrations and at 6, she's not a fluent reader yet. Contemporary stories, just long enough to keep children's attention.

Cute, story with a good lesson.

My 7-year old’s rating and review. “I wish I could taste Lucy Lancaster’s sugar cookies! The chocolate chunk cookies sounded good, but only before Heidi did her spell! It was a cool book.”

Heidi Heckelbeck enters a cookie contest with her family's favorite cookie recipe, but after hearing how everyone else's recipe has exciting ingredients such as fruity polka dots or toffee and with exciting names like Heavenly Surprise, Heidi decides her family recipe is too dull. Ignoring reassurances from her family that the recipe is just fine, Heidi, a real-life witch, uses her magic to add some pizzazz to her recipe. Only the creation is disgusting, and she loses to her friend who used a si [...]

This is a simply written chapter book about a little girl named Heidi. I picked it up today because my sister's name is Heidi and it has an appealing cover. I'll be interested to see if my niece likes it The story is pretty good Heidi wants to have a stand out cookie recipe for the cookie contest but gets sidetracked by the mean girl in her class. It had a nice message about keeping it simple and doing things well, even if it doesn't seem spectacular. It would have been nice if they had included [...]

3.5* Heidi is back, and this time, she has entered a cookie contest. She decides to use her father's "Family Recipe" for Chocolate Chunk Cookies. But, once she hears about Melanie's cookies that have "special ordered" ingredients, she feels her recipe is no longer good enough. She decides to "one-up" Melanie by adding all sorts of weird things. The cookies turn out gross, and she loses the contest.

Heidi Heckelbeck titles are relatively new series that is becoming quite popular with early independent readers. In this case Heidi displays her typical ambition, creativity, and energy when she tries to create an original cookie recipe for the school contest. Humor is abundant, in part by allowing readers to anticipate, imagine, and recognize an impending disaster before the characters do.

Cute new series for girls that are ready for chapter books. Heidi is a witch as her Mom and Aunt are witches and her Dad is human. But the spellcraft is very miminal in the book. It is a nice series about school, family, and friendships. Need to pick them up for the school library.

Simple and well done is better than complex when it comes to cookies. I enjoy how Heidi learns a lesson in each book in this series. Also, the books are mainly realistic fiction, except for the magical spells part.

My little girls are loving this series, and I like Heidi as a character. She has supportive parental figures and a fairly good relationship with her little brother. Heidi is pretty respectful to her parents and other authority figures.

    Marya
Still kinda preachy, and the little one complained it was too short. There are genuine funny moments for both of us, though, and I felt its length was just right (it ended right before bath time and not 30 minutes after bath time should have happened).

A valuable lesson is learned in Heidi's third outing. This series continues to grow stronger with each installment. Heidi's friends (and enemies) may remain one-dimensional figures, but Heidi herself is growing to be a more realistic and understandable girl.

    April Suter
She must win the cookie contest and she thinks the family's chocolate chunk recipe is just too boring. Another lesson to learn for this 2nd grader.

    Anne M.
This book is for 1st-3rd graders. The word pint is big.

    Jeanette
Simple chapter book, my daughter thought it was a fun story. (I have not read it yet.) :)

    Shay
It was good because Heidi's best friend won the cookie contest, but Heidi was really bummed out.

    FAe
This series is a quick and fun read.

    Mollie B
Heidi enters a contest and re-imagines her father's cookie recipe to make it super extraordinary! Does she win, or will it be Smell-anie, with her toffee cookies?

    Jasmine Olivia
Jasmine is just zooming through this series! She loves Heidi Heckelbeck! :)

    Jill
A great story of Heidi having to figure out on her own that appearances aren't everything.

    Sydney
i like the part when Lucy wins the cookie contest.

    Amy
Super cute and good moral to the story.

    Ms. Garr
Grade 2 and up; illustrated. Very simple, sweet story/series about Heidi and her adventures in elementary school. Perfect for young readers who aren't quite ready for longer chapter books.

    Cleo Joyce
Cute with some humor and nice illustrations.

    Lisa
Heidi is at it again. Will she bake cookies normally or will she be tempted to cast another spell to beat Melanie?
