Okay, let's start off by getting a couple of things straight. First of all, I have a ridiculous amount of allergies (that actually include peanuts, funnily enough) so I instantly connected. Second, I am an 18 year old reading a children's book for no other reason than they're completely charming - nothing wrong with that, and I am by no means alone (RIGHT?!?!) - but I am not Ganz-Schmitt's primary target audience. Third, I am in a huge reading slump, and gosh darn it (I can't bring myself to swe [...]

My girls love this book! I love that it shows how people who love the princess, who is allergic to peanuts, change their lives because they love her. Sweet book, great for all kids who are allergic to peanuts, and everyone who isn't allergic to peanuts to help bring understanding.

About the Book:Every queen knows that in order to find out if a princess is REAL, one must send the "alleged" princess to bed on a magnificent pile of mattresses, slip in a pea, and see how she sleeps. But when the royal kitchen is fresh out peas, the queen tries a peanut instead. The princess turns out to be as real as her food allergies. This vibrant and humorous tale inspires, and educates children with allergies, as well as those who live in, and around food sensitive kingdoms. Includes a foo [...]

What a touching book! My daughter, Jade, at the age of 4-years-old had a reaction to tree nuts. We found out in May, 2012 when she went into anaphylaxis within minutes of eating a piece of walnut. We never heard the seriousness of food allergies, sure we have heard of “food allergy” but I never knew the in and outs of this dangerous disability.Did you know that there are millions with food allergies, and the number seems to rise daily. No one understands why, and research is still going to f [...]

Food allergies are booming in children today with nearly six million children in the U.S. suffering from food-related allergies. Here allergies are merged into a fairy tale world to nice effect. When a prince despairs of finding his perfect princess, a princess appears on his doorstep looking for shelter from the storm. To test to see if the princess is indeed real, the queen places a peanut between her tower of mattresses. But this princess doesn’t have trouble sleeping, instead she awakens w [...]

The pictures were wonderful and vivid. I simply loved them. The story, however, was a different story. While I understood the purpose of the book, and that the story fulfilled its purpose, I just didn't care for the story. I think trying to explain things such as extreme allergies to little kids won't go well. They are too little to completely understand it, especially when you tell them that you get to be a princess if you get sick from a peanut. All they will want to do is get sick so that the [...]

Wow! Such a great realistic fairytale about allergies. I like that it shows how the allergy test is done. Very useful for hesitant kids about getting an Allergy test done. Or perhaps going to the doctor at all.
