This is probably the book I'd read on American labor history first. Dubofsky refuses to cheerlead or succumb to romanticism. The result is a good account of what actually happened at the crossroads of the American Labor movement, and provides good perspective to our current state.

Extraordinary -- too much, perhaps -- detail. But a good reminder that labor movement politics have always caused heartburn.
